The Word "Rave"

You need to separate your ideas from the rave world or you will lose credibility.

The whole point of the site is to introduce a meditative approach to the "Rave" community. If we separate ourselves from that then it would be a site about Buddhist Meditation and there are tons of sites out there already on that subject. I think the whole reason why John and I were inspired to launch a site like this one is because it has something to offer that is somewhat unique. There are lots of sites about dancing as a spiritual practice but they usually have a set of prescribed moves that you have to learn and to me that seems to remove the spontaneity that is so enjoyable about rave dancing.
I know the term "Rave" is almost like a dirty word now but what else are we going to call it? Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. The term "Underground Dance Community" comes to mind but that implies that it is "underground" so that doesn't apply to people dancing at your local disco? Raving has become more and more mainstream and with that comes a lot of misinterpretation and criticism. There are so many different kinds of dancing and we need to be specific here. We're not talking about ballet or jazz or step dancing!
We're not trying to convince anyone that what we do is something they should do. We're not trying to sell anything here. We are sharing our insights in the hope that it may inspire those that are interested in some way. If someone is anti-rave they may not get anything at all from the site and that's fine they can go home and watch TV or whatever they do for fun.
I like to go dirty dancing to pounding techno music until five o'clock in the morning and I don't see anything at all wrong with that! Do you?!
Merry Christmas and hope to see you on the dance floor!

The RAVING itself means more to you than does your message.

Katherine responds:

This is a non-issue. If you actually read the message and understand it somewhat you will know that the beauty of the awakened state is that you can apply it to any activity or non-activity for that matter. We can be awake in your car listening to '80's music, be alive when we take a shower, be open when we listen to someone else's point of view and be compassionate when we see someone hurting themselves with drug abuse. Whatever music you're into it doesn't matter as long as it moves you! Whatever turns your crank, go for it!
The whole idea is that dancing can be just one of many ways to appreciate our basic goodness. It's a "practice" like formal sitting meditation or any other contemplative art form like Calligraphy, Tea Ceremony, Miksang (Contemplative Photography). We are "practicing" in these ways so eventually we can be open, compassionate and intelligent all the time!
All of this is explained on the website. Check out the
meditation page.
The only other thing I'd like to do is invite you to try it for yourself and see what happens! And dare I offer some advice: Don't believe anything we, or anyone else tells you. Verify it with your own experience!
