Experience Fresh Awareness

The actual experience of basic goodness is easy to point out and easy to connect with.

Any time that we have a moment of freshness is a moment of experiencing basic goodness!

  • Stepping in a puddle.
  • Recognizing an old friend.
  • Getting a groove on.
  • Anything at any time.

How can we tell a fresh moment from a stale moment? Fresh moments are moments of real contact with the goodness of life.

Those moments are not filtered though our mental commentary. They are moments of nonthought. Moments of wakeful nonconceptual awareness.

Memories of the past, fantasies about the future and obsessions about the present are all ego distractions. Thinking "I am experiencing freshness" or "I cannot experience freshness" are not freshness. Freshness is not a conceptual thought at all. Freshness is direct sharp natural awareness.

Ego conceptualization is not a continuous process. There are gaps in our ego process all the time. Our task is to notice those gaps and actively cultivate our awareness of them as a spiritual discipline.

Those gaps are moments of emptiness or open heartedness. We need to notice them! We often do not. We miss the real goodness of life right under our noses! We are distracted from it by our mental commentary, our subconscious gossip.

We have continual opportunities to recognize the raw fresh moments of unfiltered goodness which underlie our everyday claustrophobia.

What do we do when we notice a moment of freshness? Just go on with whatever we are already doing. Another one is just around the corner! If we do not cling to the last moment of freshness then we are open to the next one.

Meditation means being undistracted from wakefulness. The experience of freshness is meditation. There is no real meditation apart from the experience of freshness. Since freshness can be experienced anywhere it is possible to meditate at any time.

Now the fun begins. Let's dance in the awakened state!
